Magnecor installation |

Hey Dennis,
Today I installed the blue Magnecor ignition wires.
My Range Rover is a Bosch (99).
It wasn’t that bad.
I say that, because I had read so many tales of woe related to changing them on a Bosch.
They told me that I would be cursing and bleeding and frustrated.
Other than my usual cursing, none of that was true.
I don’t know how other people are accessing the coils.
I tilted the hood to vertical, climbed up the front end and reached right over the top of the plenum.
It probably took 2 hours total labor.
However, I followed a ‘one-wire-at-a-time’ suggestion. On the face of it, it makes perfect sense and should make the process very idiot-resistant.
The Bosch’s design, though, causes a one-wire-at-a-time method to be very counter-productive.
There is so little room in there, the other wires just get in the way.
Next time, this is what I will do:
1. Let it cool off overnight and start work in the morning. 2. Tilt the hood to vertical. 3. Number each of the new ignition wires in about 4 places. 4. Diagram the position of each coil – with corresponding numbers. 5. Remove all of the existing wires in one shot. 6. Connect the new wires to the coils - from the ‘bottom’ up. The ‘bottom’ meaning the coil connections closest to the ground. They are the most difficult to reach, so none of the other wires would be in the way. 7. After connecting each at the coil end, lay each so the plug end is pointing toward the correct bank – odd or even. 8. When done with the coil connections, climb down and connect each at the plug end. One bank and then the other bank.
My arms are short and my forearms are big. I only went ‘over the top’, because I couldn’t fathom doing it from the sides.
After a little prep time for diagramming and numbering / labeling, the whole replacement process shouldn’t take more than hour – at absolute most.
My previous misfire codes are gone. There is zero sparking. (I actually read the directions: I did not put any silicone lubricant or anything else on the wires or the plugs or the coils).
If you have anyone who has anyone who has questions, feel free to give them my email address.
Thanks Again,
Dan Czarniak Roswell, GA
